Effective date: 9 October 2026
These terms and conditions are the rules that apply when you book garden work with The Dutch Groundsman or use our website. They cover quotes, visits, payment, our guarantee and what happens if something goes wrong. Please read them before you book. If anything is unclear, call Luke on +44 7311 798009 or email miles@mggc.uk.
Payment is due when the work is finished.
Bigger jobs, such as turfing or planting, need a 50% deposit.
Invoices more than 5 days overdue carry a £15 late fee.
Landscaping work comes with a 10 year guarantee.
We hold £5,000,000 public liability insurance with Simply Business.
The Dutch Groundsman is a garden maintenance and landscaping business based at 28 Henslow Way, Woking, Surrey, GU21 5RA.
We offer regular garden management, landscaping, lawn mowing, lawn care, weeding, hedge cutting, planting, pruning, turfing and irrigation. We mainly work in Cobham, Oxshott, Esher, Weybridge, St George’s Hill and Leatherhead. We also cover nearby areas, including Woking, Guildford, Walton-on-Thames, Epsom, Ashtead and Dorking.
By booking a service or using thedutchgroundsman.com, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or book work with us.
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Our quotes are based on what you tell us and, for most jobs, a visit to your garden.
[Confirm with Luke: are quotes free, and are they valid for 30 days?]
If you ask for extra work after you accept a quote, we will tell you the extra cost before we start. For example, if a hedge turns out to be much taller than it looked in your photos, we will agree a new price with you first.
A booking is confirmed once we both agree the date and the work.
If you book away from our premises, such as by phone, email, WhatsApp or through our website, you may have the right to cancel within 14 days without giving a reason. If you ask us to start work within those 14 days and then cancel, you may need to pay for the work already done.
[Confirm with Luke: notice needed to cancel regular visits, and whether deposits are refundable.]
Rain alone does not stop us. We turn up and work in normal wet weather.
If it rains so hard that the ground becomes too wet, we will move your visit to another day at no extra charge. Mowing or walking on waterlogged lawns can compact the soil and damage the grass, so a new date protects your garden.
We carry spare tools, including doubles of our main machines, so a breakdown should not cancel your visit. We also have staff who can cover if someone is ill. If we ever need to move a visit, we will tell you as early as we can.
Please tell us about anything hidden in your garden before we start. This includes irrigation pipes, outdoor lighting cables, drains and septic tanks.
If we find a pipe or cable we did not know about, we will stop and call you before going any further.
To help us work safely and on time, please:
We keep your access details private. Our Privacy Policy explains how we store them and when we delete them.
Payment is due when the work is complete.
For bigger jobs, such as turfing, planting or landscaping, we take a 50% deposit before work starts. The balance is due on completion. Your invoice will show how to pay.
If an invoice is more than 5 days overdue, we add a late payment fee of £15.
Regular customers are also covered by our three strike rule. If payments are late three times, we may remove you from our gardening round.
[Optional for Luke: business customers may also be charged statutory interest and compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.]
We guarantee all work that is within our control. Landscaping work carries a 10 year guarantee.
Some things are outside our control, so the guarantee does not cover:
New turf needs regular watering to root properly, often every day for the first couple of weeks in warm weather. Looking after it in that time is the best way to protect your investment.
We hold public liability insurance with Simply Business, with cover of £5,000,000.
We carry out all work with reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for:
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude.
If you are unhappy with our work, please tell us. Email miles@mggc.uk or call +44 7311 798009. We will reply within 5 days.
Problems are easier to fix when we hear about them early. A photo helps us understand the issue quickly.
